Lunch Buddy Program is the latest collaboration
between Woodson Lateral founders Ben Torrence and Robbie Hunt. After being in a handful of bands together over the years (Bicker, Quell, City Of...), the duo decided to start a project of which they would be the sole
members, yet would also give them an outlet for the occasional writing and recording they have always participated in with various friends. The duo draws on their collective musical upbringing, which was a constant supply of upbeat, edgy indie pop, DIY punk and hardcore, post- and math-rock, and are less obviously influenced by classic rock, jazz, avant, ambient, experimental and minimal electronic music. Their debut album, Rest Stops and Roadmaps weaves, quirky, melodic, and propulsive pop structures, from a simple, stripped-down rock palette (bass, drums, guitar and voice), as well as some lusher tracks augmented by computer-tampered sounds and textures. Add to that basslines with a strong sense of counter-melody, synchopated rhythms and unusual vocal harmonies. In october of 2007 the band added their pal Jesse Dosher as a live bass player, and the trio have played a number of shows around Seattle since that time. They are currently taking a break from live performance and are hard at work on new material and recordings for their 2nd Full-length due out in early 2009. Ben also stays busy with Bookmobile, his experimental laptop band with Victor Couto, as well as prodicing solo electronic music under the name Splinters.
