Field Notes is the solo project of Brooklyn-via-Portland-via-Seattle-via-Missoula-via-Boise singer/songwriter Chad Hanson. Chad has been playing music in various bands since his college years in Missoula, Montana. After college, he, and a handful of his musician friends relocated to Seattle, where he was a founding member of The Dutch Flat before leaving that band (pre-Ghosts) with drummer Aaron Bolton to concentrate on his more pop-centric project, Mines.

The course of Hanson's musical career to this point has spanned an evolution from complex, heavy and heady punk/prog/math rock compositions in early bands, into the matured post-rock and high-energy pop of Mines. Now, as Field Notes, Hanson strips away much of the complexities and flashy sheen of his past bands to reveal the common thread behind all of his music making to date- graceful melodies, his subtly insightful voice, and elegant, efficient song structures. His songwriting is often tinged with quiet melancholy, but never becomes mopey or depressed, exuding a hard-won understanding of the conflicting beauty and sadness of things.

Field Notes' 2nd full-length, to the Idaho House is available in digital formats now. A limited edition of CDs is in production and will be available in July 2009. The debut album Color Of Sunshine is still available through our catalog page, and Chad is currently writing material with a full backing band and gearing up for some live performances in the NYC area.
