Zach Huntting is (sometimes) Zapan. He's also been a prominent figure in Seattle's electronic music community over the last handful of years. Since 1996 Zach has been DJing and performing live laptop sets as Zapan (as well as occasional aliases, such as Dr. Poopey, Bleep Commando and 1/2 of Mr. Afternoon) in places near and far-- from the clubs of Seattle to San Francisco, Vancouver to New York, Missoula to Tokyo and back. Deftly skirting between instrumental hip-hop, drum'n'bass, and breaks, party pump, ambience and abstraction, This might be lumped into the IDM catagory, but that would be a constrictive classification. Zapan is an open mind and a keen ear. His resume is broad: Founder of Fourthcity, the clan responsable for some lively weeklies, and originators of the Laptop Battle™ phenomenon. Zach has also helped bring Poster Midget and Brushed Golden Distro into the frey. Despite all of his accolades and accomplishments, he has yet to be given his due for his talents as a musician. We hope that his tracks on Boopanschwing will finally get him a slice of the recognition and respect he deserves. Keep your eyes and ears peeled. Zapan is always afoot. |
