Recidivist was a trio comprised of Victor Couto, Choncey Langford and Ben Torrence. Their live shows were completely improvised, using two guitars and a drum set, as well as some samples, loops, keyboards or anything else they felt like bringing along. They released one full-length CD-R of this improvised trio material, along with a few studio-hatched compositions. We also released two other CD-R full-lengths under the name Recidivist, although they were both actually solo albums- one by Ben, the other by Choncey, of material each had been working on under the name "Recidivist" before they had even met. Coincidence or psychic phenomenon? As a trio Recidivist blended elements of Post-Punk, Ambient, Jazz, Jungle / Drum'n'Bass, Post-Rock, Dub, and experimental electronic music into a dynamic improvised stew. After playing a number of shows at clubs around Seattle, they devoted themselves to their all-electronic alter-ego, Lamplighter, who released one album (A Three Point Perspective - WLR011) and a couple of comp. tracks before disbanding in mid-2003. Choncey now resides in LA and has produced and performed solo under his own name and as Thee Outfit, and is also playing music in the Laptop/Guitar/Midi Drums duo, The Matic. Ben and Victor are currently doing electronic music as Bookmobile, and Ben is also doing solo work as Splinters and playing rock music in Lunch Buddy Program. |
