Lamplighter existed between 2001 and 2003. Lamplighter was one of the first groups to start dragging computers to the stages of rock clubs in Seattle. Before having laptops up to the task, they would lug whole desktop systems and bulbous old iMacs out to drop beats on bewidlered showgoers. Coming from indie and punk rock backgrounds, yet having an appreciation of dance and experimental forms of music, Lamplighter attempted to bridge gaps between different musical styles and approaches as well as audiences. Earlier on, the rock crowds seemed confused, expecting guitarists' split leaps and windmills, rather than ungodly noises made by glare-faced mouse-clutchers. Nonetheless, the trio played many shows in their short two-year carreer, sharing bills with Money Mark, David Grubbs, Hrvatski, Greg Davis, Damo Suzuki, and The Chicago Underground Duo. Their album, titled A Three Point Perspective, released in February of 2003, is a blend of big hip-hoppy beats, glichy bits, piano samples, dashes of Drum'n'Bass, synths, and tranquil compositions. Choncey now resides in Los Angeles and has performed and produced under his own name (WLR022), as well as the tag Thee Outfit, and is also in a duo, The Matic, playing laptop, guitar and keys with a midi drummer. Ben and Victor are currently making music together as Bookmobile. Ben is also producing solo as Splinters and playing rock-based music in Lunch Buddy Program.
